One thing I notice over and over again is that many of you come to me for a Total Self-Acceptance Session wanting to lose weight and have a lot of shame about telling me that because you think I'm "pro-fat."
Let me set this straight––I'm not pro-fat nor, for that matter, anti-weight loss.
I'm pro standing in your inherent worth no matter what your size. I'm pro treating yourself (and your body) with grace and acceptance even if there are parts you don't always like. I'm anti life beginning 20 pounds from now.
The self-loathing part is a systemic problem created by diet culture, which causes emotional harm and can damage our bodies. So yeah, I'm anti-diet culture.
I love how renowned spiritual and feminist author Elizabeth Lesser talks about the systemic piece. She explains, "One of the wounds is the tendency, drilled into women for the millennia, to doubt who we are, to diminish what we value, to have contempt for our bodies, for our very selves."
I want to help you heal the doubt, shame, and contempt so that you can care for your body (your self) because you feel good about yourself. That includes, amongst many other things, mindful eating and movement.
If that results in weight loss, I'm cool with that. If it doesn't, I'm also cool with that. My size fluctuates way too much to have an opinion about yours.
More than anything, I want to help you make peace with your body so the way you think about yourself is no longer holding you back from living your life.
If that sounds like something you would like, I would love to support you. The first step is to sign up for one of my free sessions.
