The Mechanics of Self-Grace, an 8-week workshop

by Jaclyn McCabe April 19, 2022

My first car was a 1972 Buick Electra. A giant beauty of a car that turned heads everywhere I went. Affectionately dubbed The Blue Goose, she was magnificent, but also pulled to the left. I could easily be caught straddling the centerline because I wasn't paying attention. Not an ideal trait you want in a car.

I had no idea what 90% of the engine actually did. My only solution to keeping The Goose between the lines was to hold on to the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned white. So one day, I had a novel idea––take her to a mechanic.

I soon learned which parts needed some tweaking and which were running just fine. The trusted mechanic also taught me how to check the fluid levels and other things like the warning signs that she was running hot. And most importantly, I learned all about power steering fluid, which was the key to keeping me from drifting into oncoming traffic.

The way I talk to myself often reminds me of those years driving The Goose. Before I asked for help and looked "under the hood," my go-to thought pattern was to beat myself up. It turns out this was a malformed coping mechanism, similar to white-knuckling the steering wheel.

My engine, or neuropathways, are too confusing to understand my coping mechanisms on my own. I need a trusted source to teach me about patterns, cultural imprints, and limited beliefs that have my inner mean girl running hot. This discovery gave me the grace for myself I so desperately needed. With self-grace, my inner mean girl had power.

That's why I'm offering an 8-week group workshop, The Mechanics of Self-Grace, Wednesdays in May & June @ 4:30 CST. It's a perfect opportunity to look "under the hood" in a loving, supportive way. This class will look at what engine bits need cleaning and which ones are perfect exactly where they are. Together, we will learn powerful tools so you can stop white-knuckling your thoughts, feelings, and actions. And instead, walk through life with ease, worth, and even confidence.

If that sounds like something you would be interested in hearing more about, grab a time on my calendar to learn how the group class can help you radically change the way you speak to yourself.
